The day knitting made political headlines

On a day where Prime Minister Julia Gillard was both ridiculed and praised for her knitting it seemed apt to go with this theme. My ulterior motive is that I can’t be bothered with a decent blog post and just want to get on with knitting a sock of my very own (so far I have knat socks as presents for four other people).

Here is the beginning of my sock. Oh, I wish it were finished now! Just imagine how toasty warm my feet will be in luxurious mohair socks!

Back to the original theme… I am proud to have a Prime Minister who can knit a decent kangaroo for a royal baby, whether or not she or I or anyone thinks this baby should become the head of Australia. I believe knitting is a good hobby for anyone, I would be more than happy to find out any male politicians who might also knit. I appreciate having the opportunity to see a more personal side of our country’s leaders and I believe whether it be Tony Abbott participating in triathlons or Julia Gillard knitting they should be able to do so without fear of ridicule.

Anyway, I’ll just get off my soapbox now and get back to my knitting…

Just for the record, here is one of the more sensible commentaries on the matter – Let the knitting carpers go cold – by Jaqueline Maley from The Age National Times 25/6/2013.
